Maggie Booker (Community Worker and parent from Millmead) says:
“Here in Millmead we have spent a lot of time considering the future of SureStart Millmead
and the best way to keep it community centred. We believe a Mutual Society is the answer. It allows us to deliver
the services the community wants.
Members of the Community that join the society will be able to vote for representatives to sit on the Board, attend Annual
General Meetings to discuss our progress and talk about the future with everyone having a voice.
The structure of the Mutual Society will help us keep our Centre run by and for the community. All you pay is £1 for a share”
|
| Q - What if I don’t want to join? |
| A - That’s fine—you will still be able to use the Children’s Centre
services, but by joining the Mutual Society you have a better chance of having your voice heard.
|
| Q - How can I have a voice? |
| A - By electing 5 Community reps who will voice your opinions
|
| Q - Can I attend meetings? |
| A - Yes, there are regular meetings which will be promoted in the Children’s Centre and
the SureStart Newsletter. Also, an Annual General Meeting of members is held.
|
| Q - What happens to my £1?
|
| A - Your one-off payment of £1 is put into a savings account to help support the not-for-profit
services offered at the Children's Centre. You will receive a share certificate as proof of your membership
