Early Years Education
Once a child reaches a certain pre-school age they become entitled to government money to attend several weekly Nursery Education classes. This is known as the Early Years Education Entitlement (EYEE). To find out more about this scheme contact The Childcare Information Helpline on 0800 2346 346.

This education is referred to as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and children complete their last year of this stage during their first year at Primary School (Reception Class).

The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution, and achieving economic well-being. A Unique Child

Recognising that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self- assured. The commitments are focused around development; inclusion; safety; and health and well-being.

Positive Relationships

This describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person. The commitments are focused around respect; partnership with parents; supporting learning; and the role of the key person.

Enabling Environments

Learning and Development

Recognising that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

Children are competent learners from birth and develop and learn in a wide variety of ways. The care and education offered by our setting helps children to continue to do this by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

There are six areas of learning covered by the Early Learning Goals and educational programmes.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy development
  • Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

For each area the Early Learning Goals state what is expected that children will know, and be able to do by the end of the reception year in their education.

None of these areas of Learning and Development can be delivered in isolation from others. All the areas will be delivered through planned, purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.
